Great British Menu 2013, Final Banquet Preview

For the last eight weeks in the eighth series of Great British Menu we’ve watched twenty four of Great Britain’s finest chefs battle it out. Now eight chefs including four chefs from Great British Chefs site are hoping they’ll be representing their region to serve at banquet for Comic Relief at the end of the week. This week (starting 25th March 2013) we will finally get to see who will go through to cook at the Royal Albert Hall.

Here’s a round up of the chefs who will need to make gastronomy that also puts a smile on the judges’ faces. Tom Aikens who won the London and South East round; Michael Smith will be representing Scotland; Aiden Byrne was the victor for the North West; Colin McGurran is representing the North East; Peter Sanchez-Iglesias won the South West round, Raymond McArdle is representing Northern Ireland; Daniel Clifford once again represents the Central region and Richard Davies who will be flying the flag for Wales.

In Monday’s show the finalists prepare their starters, to be tasted and scored by the Great British Menu judges and actress Patricia Hodge (better known as Miranda’s mum!) However, there will be a new twist in the competition which may affect which starters are left in contention for the banquet.

On Tuesday, the remaining finalists cook their fish dishes, which will be tasted and scored by the Great British Menu judges and impressionist Ronni Ancona.

With another twist new dishes are introduced to the contest for Comic Relief.

On Wednesday, the chosen finalists will prepare their main courses, with comedien Ade Edmondson tasting and scoring alongside the other Great British Menu judges. We should expect the unexpected as a further surprise is delivered to the remaining contestants.

On Thursday it’s the final chance to impress the judges with desserts. The Great British Menu judges Matthew Fort, Prue Leith and Oliver Peyton will be joined by comedian Charlie Higson.

On Friday, the four winners will have been announced and the final show follows the successful chefs in the run-up to the banquet. You’ll see their painstaking preparations for what is likely to be one of the most important meals they will ever cook. You’ll see the highs and lows along the way including how the food gets from the kitchen to the dining room with a broken down lift.
